Middy is finished

I have no idea where I'm going to hang her when she's framed (wall space is becoming limited, who knew that could happen?), but here she is, finished today.

My mini-vacation

I'm taking off three days this week. I originally had intended on driving up to Paducah for the AQS Quilt Show, but changed my plans when I had to schedule some appointments here in town.

So today my AC unit got a spring cleaning and my little Spice got new shoes (Michelin's this time, nice!). Mom stopped by for a nice visit (we saw the teeny tiny little ducklings for the first time walking across the back yard with their mommy), and I worked a little bit on Delaney's Snow Puzzle quilt. I now have 4 blocks each of 13 colors completed (there will be approximately 31 colors unless I change my mind when I get ready to assemble it).

It has been a beautiful day here. I think they had predicted a high of 84 degrees. Tomorrow I get my new lenses installed in my glasses (yes, my prescription has changed *again*), and I think since I'll be up close to the Quilter's Attic, I might drop in to see if they have any fat quarters I might be interested in acquiring (sale - 10 for $10, sweet!). Friday will be a fun day with my girlfriends playing Scrabble and just visiting (probably show-and-tell with craft or art projects), and then a nice weekend with the hubby. Now this is the life! :)

I'm excited, but I have to wait until June

I've signed up for a machine quilting class, and I just can't wait, but I guess I'll have to... :) It's scheduled for June 4, and a fellow quilter is taking it with me, so we should have double the fun, right? The quilt shop employee who was scheduling me for the class said that she had taken the same class before she started working there, and that is was an excellent class with an excellent teacher. She also said that it takes about 9 hours of practice for everything to "click." I'm thinking I should also schedule some time off for practice. ;-)

I've fused and cut out the first five t-shirt blocks for Hollywood's quilt. I'm going to have to get some additional feedback from him, though. The blocks are 12½ inches square, but some of the designs on the t-shirts he gave me are bigger than that, and I don't want to cut into them unless he wants to lose part of the design. There will be 20 blocks in all (4 x 5 grid) with some sashing between them. I'm really curious to see how it turns out with the quilting.

I downloaded my new audiobook (Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card) last night, so I'm all ready for an evening of craftiness. By the way, I'm still enjoying my subscription, and I'm still using it to listen to new [to me] authors. True, I haven't batted a thousand - Opening Atlantis by Harry Turtledove turned out not to be my cup of tea - but I've enjoyed Lisa Scottoline's Lady Killer and Richard Matheson's I Am Legend (plus a couple of books I've already read, and just had to own and listen to again). Time to stitch!

Afternoon Tea, back from the quilter (Carol Byrd), bound and ready for use.

The second picture doesn't really show the backing very well, but at least you can see that I added a quilt block when I pieced the backing. The third picture shows the different backing fabrics very well. The quilting pattern is called Flutter-byes. I cut the binding on the bias for the first time, and I'll be interested in seeing how it wears compared to the straight grain bias I've been using on all of my other quilts.

I've started adding wings to my Middy. I don't think she will take very long to finish, maybe just another couple of weeks. :) But right now I'm going to trace a few more quilting patterns on the Double Wedding Ring quilt and work on it tonight.

A new block

for my SSS 2008 BOM quilt, the Shooting Star, We did so much running around yesterday that I didn't even have time to piece it together until today.

A whole lotta quilting going on

I got a call Monday afternoon that Afternoon Tea was all quilted and ready for me, so I picked it up yesterday afternoon. Now I just need to work on the binding! Wow, wow, wow, I can't believe I got it back that fast. This Saturday is the SSS 2008, and I've decided to go ahead and take up Cocoa Bling Kitty and have it quilted. I seamed up the backing last night. We actually have several quilts just for us now!

I've been working on hand quilting the Double Wedding Ring, and I finally have the inner 30 circles finished. Now I begin working on the outer circles - there are 26 of them, so I am over halfway there (as far as quilting goes).

I'm often asked by friends, "When am I going to get MY quilt?" Hollywood is C's best friend, has been for ages, and I made his sister a quilt several years ago. I've been musing over what quilt pattern to make for him (Hollywood) for a while now, and I've finally settled on what I think will be the perfect one for him - a t-shirt quilt. I have the pattern, and now I have about 25 or 26 shirts (I asked him to bring me the favorites that he won't miss wearing). I just have to go get some interfacing and figure out what fabric I'll be using for sashing and backing. I think this will be a fun project.

A face for Middy

And there it is. Just a few more beads to add in her hair and dress and I can throw away a couple of working copy pages. I'm guessing she's about 75% complete now.

I joined the Music City Quilt Guild today. We had a wonderful time at today's meeting, and I was amazed at how many women remembered my from my guest visit a few months ago (the guild is actually quite large). I even got to meet Pam Thorne, who had quilted Allison's Jewel Box, Christopher's Bear Chase, and Teresa's Baskets quilts for me. It's so nice to put a face with a name.

Here is the first of my second pair of socks. I'm still working on the mate, but I've been distracted by other things lately, so I haven't made as much progress as I'd like. Maybe I'll work on it tonight while watching American Idol.
