Feet, feet, feet

That's the name of the series of classes my mom and I've been taking over the past few weeks. And here are the feet I've played with and decided to purchase so far. From left to right, knit-edge (aka pearls and piping), open-toe (appliqué), narrow-edge (esp. good for attaching lace), stitch-in-the-ditch (quilting), and quarter-inch-with-guide:

We have one more class to go this Thursday night, and we'll be doing some more with quilting feet.

I'm still working on the grapes pillow, and here is my latest progress on it.

Hope everyone has a great week!

A few pictures

I have finally gotten around to taking a few pictures (and I finally finished my block of the month for March, plus a freebie from Moonlight Stitch), so here they are!

First up is my new set of potholders from a class I took last Thursday at my quilt guild's Sit n Sew. These are for me, and we've already started using them. :)

Next, March's SSS 2009 quilt block of the month, Windy Day.

At the Moonlight Stitchin' event, we started a little egg fob on needlepoint canvas. Mine looks more like a football because it's sitting on its side. :)

And yes, I decided to go ahead and start a new project. I am hopeless, and it's better just to recognize and embrace it, right? Here is Donna Vermillion Giampa's Grapes Pillow - I had the light blue jobelan and all of the DMC in my stash, so it's all good. :)

I just finished watching the commentary and all the extras for Twilight, can't get over how much I love these books and the movie. Melanie had a Twilight party on Saturday, and we had a blast. Even my SIL rented the movie and watched it 4 times with her daughters on Saturday. Yes, it's an obsession.

I think I'm about to get pulled in to something new too - C and I just bought Resident Evil 5 - it's fully co-operative play, so I see some good video gaming in our future (we each played through RE4 and loved it, so I'm looking forward to playing one together!).

Sewing machine feet classes

Yes, you read that right, I'm taking 4 classes on optional sewing machine feet for my machine and how to use them. Mom and I took the first class last Thursday night (the classes are called "Feet, feet, feet"), and the first two feet were the knit-edge (or pearls and piping) and the open-toe. I knew I wanted to buy an open-toe foot because every time I appliqué a piece of fabric, I look for that foot, knowing that it should be in my feet box, but also vaguely aware that I won't find it. The open-toe foot should make appliqué much easier. The knit-edge foot is pretty cool for creating piping or sewing on strings of 4mm pearls / beads.

I ran into a bit of frustration last night. I realized that after I've been stitching for several days on Egyptian Sampler, I am off by one row on a large area. I don't believe I can easily adjust the design to compensate, so I have quite a bit of frogging to NOT look forward to, sigh. I've put the design away for now. I just can't bear to look at it and imagine the work I have ahead of me.

I am really tempted at this point to start something new. Most of my projects are the larger, more complicated ones, like the TW's. Blended threads, tons of color changes, quarter and three-quarter stitches. I feel the need for a medium-sized, little bit simpler project. I haven't made up my mind yet, just thinking about it.

Saturday night is my LNS' Moonlight Stitching event, so that may just call for a new start. I'll let you know. :)

Happy Dance #5 of 16

Here is Chatelaine's Waterlily Pond Quilt square 5!

I also worked on Dragon Ride recently, so I'm starting to see some border progress, and the backstitching of the dragon's head and the rider is complete now.

Kidnapped by vampires

It's been a while since I last posted, and I have a very good reason. I've been kidnapped by vampires, the Cullens in particular. :) Okay, I WISH. :)

I've been resisting the whole Twilight mania and hype (why, I really have no idea), but I succumbed to starting the first book a little over a week ago. I've read New Moon and Eclipse, and now I'm starting Breaking Dawn and her unfinished manuscript Midnight Son. Today I went to see the movie with a bunch of girlfriends (who have seen it at least 4 times each now, some a lot more), and I already want to see it again. I also have the soundtrack, I love Bella's Lullaby.

The good news is that I haven't been completely dragged away from my stitching (though it has been much less frequent this week), and I did finish making the Autumn Mosaic Pillow into an actual pillow.

I also have a couple of other pictures to take and share, but I don't know if I'll get to that tonight or not. I have quite a few photos from my last quilt guild meeting to resize and post on their site. Plus I've neglected laundry all day (for the vampires). It has been a beautiful weekend here, and I've thoroughly enjoyed running around in C's car with the windows down and the sunroof open. I love this time of year!
