AQS Quilt Show acquisitions :)

I had a blast at the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah on Wednesday, and was thoroughly exhausted by mid-afternoon. The quilts were gorgeous, as always, and I managed to pick up a few things to add to my quilting stash. First picture is fat quarters from The Fat Quarter Queen - honestly, with packaging like this, who could resist?

Next is templates, patterns, a book on Machine Quilting in Sections (which she graciously signed), and Aurifil thread from Marti Michell. I've previously purchased some Perfect Patchwork templates from Marti and LOVE them - the corners are cut off so that all the pieces (even triangles) match without having to guess where to place them. With my ¼ inch foot, piecing is a dream!

Finally, a few quilting stencils from JD Stencils.

I've started piecing a few more hexagons and diamonds together on Tori's quilt, but haven't gotten very far. Hopefully I'll get to it again Monday night (game night for the boys).

In cross stitch, I'm still working on the Grapes Pillow, but I haven't progressed far enough to take a new picture yet. It's very relaxing to stitch on, so I'm just continuing with it until I get tired or finish it. :)

Oh, and Julie asked about the design wall in my last post - it's actually a foam insulation board that I've nailed to the wall and covered with felt. A friend made a smaller one and loves hers (and of course, mine's invaluable to me). Go for it!

Coming out of the fog

I came down with a sinus infection Friday night, and it had me down most of the weekend. I was finally able to take some pictures today, so I can update progress on two projects.

My Grapes Pillow is coming along really nicely. It's not quite half-way, but almost! Oh, and yes, Julie, I believe it is the same designer as the one your mom model-stitched the hydrangea pillow in JCS. She's also got another couple of pillows I'm thinking of stitching. :)

I finally started piecing Tori's Hexagon Beads quilt, and the first of 8 columns is complete. It's going to take some careful attention to the seams because these are not nice 90 degree angles, but 60 degree ones, and they don't just lock together easily. But I think it's going to be a nice, colorful quilt, and I really think it reflects the way I see Tori (of course, I think that of a lot of the quilts I make - the colors and pattern reflect the recipient).

Wednesday is my trip to the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah, and I can't wait! I hope I'm completely over this sinus thing by then. Going on the bus with other guild members, I don't have to worry about driving myself and can concentrate on having fun the entire day. My camera's all charged up, so's my iPod if necessary, and I'm hoping that I can grab a seat next to Phyllis & Ariel. Thursday is a vacation day to relax and recover from all the running around looking at quilts, perhaps playing with my own quilts, and then Friday is Scrabble Day with the girls!

Grapes Pillow progress, SSS 2009 April block

I have made some more progress on the grapes pillow. It's about all I've been working on lately. I just can't seem to put it down.

And yesterday I picked up my block of the month for April. It's named Quack, and I finished it today.

CC and I stayed up until 1:00 a.m. playing RE5 again. I figure that at the rate we're going, we'll probably finish it next weekend. It's been a lot of fun so far, and I've wanted to stretch it out. Of course, I'm sure we'll play through it again. We've got a mini-vacation coming up, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Quilting fun coming up

As I just posted on my FB page, I have GOT to get into my craft room and put some things away so I can actually DO something in there. I have the Quilter's Attic block of the month to pick up (and probably put together) tomorrow. And I would like to get started on Tori's quilt!

It turns out that my quilt guild is chartering a bus for a day trip to the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah on the same day I was planning to go, so I don't have to worry about driving or parking! And the price was about the same (or maybe cheaper) than I would have spent in gas myself too, so extra incentive to go with them.

Okay, time to get off the computer and attempt to at least move some stuff around in there (when I rather feel like taking a nap!)...

Great coordinating fabric find

Mom and I weathered the storms last night on the way to our last sewing machine feet class, and we ended up with quite a bit of free time before it was to start. So we decided to just have a look around Joann's. I don't think either one of us really needed anything, so we just began walking around. Of course, we ambled back to the quilt fabrics area (she's not a quilter, but she is a quilt admirer!). Again, I didn't really think I needed anything, so I was just walking around some of the bolts when I found this - and I think it will be the perfect coordinating fabric for Tori's Hexagon Beads quilt.

I think I may get started in earnest on piecing this quilt in the next month or so.

Monday night I actually did a little quilting on Noel's Gone Fishing blocks, and now I have 18 of 30 complete.

I'm planning to take a day trip to the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah this year. I haven't been in the last few years - just one thing or another came up. Not really planning to do much shopping, but certainly looking forward to seeing all the beautiful quilts and exhibits.
