Figgy Pudding Charm Bracelet Quilt

Friday after work I laid out all my charm squares on my design wall (have I mentioned how much I love having a design wall? It makes creating a quilt SO much easier)...

Yesterday and today I worked on piecing it all together, and here is the result!

My secret? Well, other than it being a REALLY simple quilt pattern, it was due to having very few other responsibilities this weekend and having a husband who wanted to play his favorite video games (Grid, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2).

And that's my secret for getting so much cross stitching done, too (though I know several people who will say that I'm kind of a fast stitcher too). I stitch while we watch tv, I quilt while I listen an audiobook or music, and we try to keep our responsibilities (other than the obligatory full-time jobs) to an absolute minimum - yep, we're basically both still kids ourselves. :)

Kitty Litter

I have quite a bit of the darkest green background to fill in, but I wanted to get some of the design stitched so the background stitching will be easier to do with less concentration. :)

Three quilts have been dropped off at my LQS so they can be quilted! Bamboo, Pinwheels, and the SSS 2009 are now waiting their turn in line, and I have their binding fabrics picked out. I'm so excited to have 3 quilts nearly finished!

And now it's the weekend, with no plans except to enjoy the time off and stitch or quilt to my heart's content. Happy weekend!

Arabian Woman progress

As promised, here is my latest progress on Arabian Woman:

And I started Kitty Litter - it's going to be a big project (20½ x 10¼ inches on my 32 ct. Belfast linen).

This was the first day's progress. Fortunately a lot of the background is half stitches, which I love for the effect they can create. There are 5 strands of floss in the brown/green backround (upper left corner), so it almost gives it a woven or needlepoint feel. I've put a few more stitches in the butterfly, so there will be a new progress pic coming soon.

Moonlight Stitch night

Today was a busy day - started out with a trip to the jeweler's for a new watch battery, then down to Joann's for some backing and binding fabrics for those quilt tops I've just finished, home to pick up hubby then to the store for some groceries, home for lunch and an episode of Chuck (loving that show - we're watching season 2), then the library to pick up Hunger Games audiobook, and finally Moonlight Stitch night (i.e., fun with my girlfriends). We had a blast, as usual, and I did something I haven't done in a while - bought a new kit (plus replacement linen because I don't want to stitch it on the 18 ct. aida). I think I want to start this NOW!

It's called Kitty Litter, and yes, it's a Dimensions Gold kit, so I'll have to deal with the kind of half-colored chart I don't normally care for, but it's just SO CUTE! :)

Just one more...

The Pinwheels quilt top is assembled, so now I have three quilt tops waiting for me to figure out their backings and get them to the quilter!

While the Bamboo and SSS 2009 quilts are definitely for me, I plan for this one to be a gift for a friend. I hope she likes it. :)

Quick update on BOM quilt

The top is finished!

And I started assembling Pinwheels this afternoon, though I've only pieced a few of the blocks together. The more I finish, the closer I can be to a new start! :)

How to spend a snowy Saturday

Quilting, of course!

I finished the Bamboo quilt top, then started assembling the SSS 2009 block of the month. Didn't get it finished too, but don't have too far to go - just assembling the bottom star border, then adding those and a 5-inch brown outer border, which I should be able to get done in another day (but not necessarily tomorrow). Now to figure out quilt backings also...

And here is the latest on Mother's Arms, working my way down the right side a bit:

I'm currently stitching on Arabian Woman - which I realize is not in my current rotation (that yes, I know I chose), but I felt the pull to work on her the other day, so she will have a little more progress that I'll be able to share in a few days. Time is speeding by faster and faster - the last update I have for her was December 2008, and it seems like it was only a couple of months ago that I last put stitches into her, rather than a year...

I'm grateful for not feeling the pressure of a deadline for any particular project. It makes it much more enjoyable to just pick up one of my WIPs and work on it without guilt that I should be working on something else. I love making gifts, but giving myself hard, short deadlines can be a little stressful. And there are enough other stresses in life that my hobbies should be stress-relieving!! :) Therefore, I'm going to try not to put myself in that situation again - even though my nieces really enjoyed their Christmas gifts!

Quilt guild today

We had our monthly meeting this morning, so good to see everyone. So I thought this would be a really good time to share my latest progress on the Bamboo quilt - just 4 more seams to sew and the quilt top will be finished!

I was listening to Marcia Muller's Edwin of the Iron Shoes while piecing these columns, and I'll probably finish it up while finishing up the quilt top.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone, and happy new year to me - we decided to start the celebration by trading in my old car for a new one, a Kia Forte Koup. All I want to do today is go out for a drive. :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful new year!!
