Quilt Retreat, day 3

We have been having so much fun this week. Today I finished the inner portion of my Trip to New England, and I'm very pleased with the results. Now I'll need to cut the borders and the appliqué leaves to put on them.

I also managed to get about half of my hexagons pieced together today, and put them up on the design wall. I didn't really care for the first layout, so I rearranged them a bit. Of course, there will be twice as many blocks when I'm ready to start putting them together, so the layout will probably change quite a bit. But here's a little taste of it so far...

I'm having a blast at Retreat!

Yesterday was the first day of my quilt guild's annual retreat, and it's been a great time so far! Yesterday I started my Trip To New England quilt, for which I've had the kit for about 7 years. Here is the progress from day one.

Today we started our class project, the One Block Wonder quilt. Here are two hexagons, not yet sewn together just to give a couple of examples of how drastically this fabric is going to be transformed. I am loving the possibilities.

Happy Dance #15 of 16

I finished square 15 last night, and since that completed all 4 of the little "frames", I decided to go ahead and add the charms to all of them.

Square 15

Here are the other 3 frames with charms, plus I added a little ladybug charm to one other square.

I have the most generous friends. When we were having dinner along with show and tell the other night, my friend Sallie was showing off some of the gorgeous fabrics she purchased at a recent quilt show. When I mentioned how perfect one batik looked with all my Waterlily Pond squares, she insisted that I use it in the quilt. I tried to say no, but she just wouldn't have it. So, I'm thinking that I'll be able to make the quilt very soon, and I'll share it then.

I am attending my quilt guild's annual Retreat next week, and we are going to be learning how to make a One Block Wonder quilt. I went fabric shopping today, and came back with two options. I think that the first fabric will be the one I use in the quilt top, and the second fabric will be the backing, but we'll just have to wait and see when I get there - I might change my mind.

Taking the plunge aka Stitcher's ADHD aka I Have No Self Control

But we all knew that, right? I'd like to blame Cheryl and Dana and Wendy, because they are certainly wonderful enablers. But when it comes down to it, I just can't help myself.

I've been in love with Chatelaine's Desert Mandala since she first announced it, but held myself off from getting it because hello, I probably have more than I can stitch in my lifetime.

But that only lasts so long, because there are so many beautiful designs out there being created all the time. And this past weekend I went to my LNS' Moonlight Stitch, and Cheryl, Wendy, and Dana were all working on their beautiful Chatelaines (and Cheryl brought two of her finished ones to share with us), and the fever was back on. Yes, I'm currently doing Chatelaine's Waterlily Pond Quilt, and yes, I've signed up for her Spring and Autumn Fairy designs, but I REALLY wanted the Desert Mandala too. So I did it, took the plunge, and ordered the pattern, fabric, and kit. And before I even checked it out on the Chatelaine Design Viewer, I decided on Light Sand Belfast linen. Here is what it mocks up to look like.

Of course, I can't wait to get it and start it! I have no excuses, I just love to stitch beautiful things. Oh, and I finally settled on framing for Stilts, so I will be putting her up on my kitty wall in April.

Happy Dance #14 of 16

Getting closer! Here is Chatelaine's Waterlily Pond Quilt square #14. I've just started square #15, so I may actually finish this project in 2011... if I can just keep my focus, right? :)

Happy Dance #13 of 16

It has been a while since I worked on my Waterlily Pond Quilt, and square #13 is very bright and pretty!

Cross stitch update

I've stitched about a third of the second panel on Mirabilia's Deco Spirits, and here is the progress on that. Then I got distracted. I saw Chatelaine's Autumn Fairy and decided that I had to have her and the Spring Fairy. Of course, these are online classes, so I have almost all of the parts downloaded for Spring, but Autumn doesn't start until May.

These charts were my reward for meeting weight loss goal #2 this year, and my reward for meeting goal #3 will be the supplies. I know that I don't need to start them right away anyway (with everything else I've got going), but I wanted to go ahead and get the charts so I can start them when I am ready.

Of course, seeing them reminded me that I still have Chatelaine's Waterlily Pond Quilt in progress, and so I pulled that out to do another block. I thought I'd finished through #13, but that's actually the one I just started, so I've been working on it the past few days, and plan to finish it today. New progress picture soon then!

Mystery Quilt, Clue #3

Clue #3 is actually 12 log cabin squares. Here are 3 of each of the 3 colorways.

I have been so busy with work lately, that I haven't had much energy to play. But I've got a vacation scheduled so that I can attend our quilt guild's yearly retreat at the end of this month, and I'm really looking forward to it!
