Pineapple Block

A lady in my quilt guild makes some of the finest buttonhole stitch hand appliqué in her quilts. I recently conferred with her to find out what thread (and how many strands) she uses, as well as the size of her stitches. I had started this block just before then, so the pineapple (brown) fabric is appliquéd with 2 strands and a larger stitch. The leaves and frame are appliquéd with just one strand and a smaller stitch. I definitely want to try this on some more blocks. And I need the practice. You can click the photo for a larger view. One thing I determined is that it is easier to do the smaller stitches on rounded pieces. The edges of the points (of the leaves) began to fray a bit. I'll have to confer a bit more to see how she deals with things like that.

Oh, and this quilt will be on point, which is why the pineapple is on the diagonal. :)

What a hoot!

I admit I have a problem, but I don't really want to be cured.

This weekend I started The Cat's Whiskers' "What a Hoot!" I recently won it in a variation of the Dirty Santa game (but in June). I was so pleased that no one stole it from me, and I've been wanting to start it from the time it came into my hands.

Here is my progress so far - I expect to have the stitching completed this week, barring any other projects getting in the way, and then I plan to go ahead and finish it as the scissor-keep and needle-minder as intended.

I've also got an urge to play with some blanket stitch applique, so I will probably work on a block from my Blocks From the Past quilt soon to satisfy that. :)

Grapes Pillow finished into a pillow

Just 2 short years after finishing the stitching, my Grapes Pillow cross stitch (Donna Vermillion Giampa) is actually a pillow now!

Chinese Dragon Gate start

I don't even have my fibers and beads yet from ECC, but I just had to start Chinese Dragon Gate. I'm stitching it on 28 count navy Jubilee, which I understand is no longer available (luckily I had a yard in my stash). I pulled the DMC, and here's my start...
