I saw my doctor this week for the second post-op follow up visit. He thinks I am doing pretty well, considering the repair that had to be done. He released me from wearing the sling except as a warning to others in social situations, but it's funny, some people ignore it and squeeze your shoulder anyway. :/
Then I went to my PT appointment that afternoon, and it kicked my butt. My physical therapist asked me to show him how far I could lift my arm in several directions and behind my back, and we were both disappointed to see how little range of motion and strength I currently have (a result of both the surgery and the fact that I've been so restricted for 7 weeks). We began working to improve that, and I was exhausted and sore at the end of the session. I still have a long way to go. But after today's session, I don't feel as discouraged as I did on Tuesday. Yes, I am still very limited, but we are working to correct that. I still do exercises every day faithfully, and I see my physical therapist twice a week. I can see the results of all the work we've been doing over the last 6 weeks, and I know it will get better over the next 6, then the next 6, until I'm back to normal, except with no more shoulder pain.
